This Privacy Policy explains how the Sama Crushes the Codewebsite (the “Site”) collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here. This Site is operated by the team behind Sama Crushes the Code by Samaira Mehta.

Information we collect

We only collect what we need to run the features you use:

• Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and (if you choose to add one) a profile picture and favorite character. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and avatar from Google.
• Event reservations (RSVPs). When you reserve a spot at the book signing, we collect your name, email address, party size, and any note you add.
• Daily vote. We record your vote together with an anonymous device identifier (or your account ID, if signed in) so each person can vote once per day. Votes are not tied to your name publicly.
• Email verification codes. We temporarily store a hashed one-time code to confirm your email during sign-up and RSVP. These expire automatically.
• Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers may process standard log data (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the Site secure and working.

How we use your information

• To create and manage your account and profile.
• To process your event reservation and send you a confirmation email.
• To notify the event organizers of new reservations.
• To run the daily vote fairly (one vote per person per day).
• To send the email verification codes you request.
• To maintain the security, integrity, and performance of the Site.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us operate the Site, including:

• Supabase: authentication and database hosting for accounts, RSVPs, and votes.
• Email delivery: to send verification codes, RSVP confirmations, and organizer notifications.
• Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Site.

Children’s privacy

Sama Crushes the Code is a book for young readers, and families are welcome here. However, the Site’s accounts and reservation features are intended to be used by a parent, guardian, or person 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental involvement. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us at samaira.monica@gmail.com and we will delete it.

Data retention

We keep account and reservation information for as long as your account is active or as needed to run the event. Email verification codes are deleted shortly after they expire. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Your choices and rights

• You can view and edit your profile while signed in.
• You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data.
• You can ask us not to send you non-essential emails.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and your browser’s local storage for essential functions only, keeping you signed in and remembering that you’ve already voted today. We do not use advertising trackers.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including hashing verification codes and restricting database access. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes may be highlighted on the Site.
